Thesis Year - Blog Post 23

And at last the final month of the semester begins. It has been a journey to get to this point but here we are. We enter April on target and hopeful of the future. A rough pre-alpha, concept build of “Memorial Tomb” has been made – the edited video will be available for the next blog post as I work with it to construct a “trailer” for the end of the semester. The following weeks will focus on polish, we are targeting lighting, movement speed, and general bugs mainly (as well as a black environment for the start and credits menu).

Regarding my paper, general grammar edits have been applied based on available feedback thus far, I am waiting on additional feedback to keep working.

Speaking of this however, I have decided to respond to a CFP (Call For Papers) for “Gaming and Gamers in Times of Pandemic” using my Thesis to respond to some of the topics this is CFP is interested in collecting papers about “Serious games developed for and around the pandemic,” “Games and players’ well-being (games as tools for therapy and the improvement of anxiety vs. excessive use, abuse, and possible addiction),” & “Teaching and developing games in the pandemic” to name a few. An abstract is due May 15th, I will begin work the week of April 11th.

In this spirit I will be contacting my editor for the Thesis paper to gauge interest in editing for this CFP abstract and beyond.

My Thesis talk is going well, I’ve decided to finish the scripting first before starting the slides (I say this because I am in a position to finish the scripting this week, allowing the rest of the month to be used for slides and timing).

I have also made an appointment for the Career Center. I detailed some tentative plans for the immediate post-semester (the CFP work, SCS, and “Memorial Tomb” full release) but made it clear I was looking for advice and recommendations for more financially stable work (in games or teaching) after graduation.
